valam is a historical place, where all casts live. people here celebrates a big historic festival named HATHIYA-THATHU. they spend 5 days in this festival, people from the world come to see this amazing race. in this race they make hathiyo and thathu, they devide the village in two parts and a race between this two parts is amazing scene to see. this race takes place at night around 2-3 am. they use 4 bullocks for this race. thesr is an auction takes place in the village, to decide who's bullock will take part in this race. they make thathu and the thathu will go and invite yhathyo for the race, from this place the race takes place. they will have to go to all temples and pray in therace and at the end whoever reach to the main (suleshwari) temple is the winner of the race. this is a two day function, the same process takes place the next day as well, but the fair starts 3 days prior to this race. there are aroung 50 people sits in thathu, and when it runs we feel like its earthquack. eevryone must go and see this festival once in their life. they organise residence for tourists as well. this festival takes place in summer hgolidays
